The E-Invoicing Exchange Summit: Harnessing Global E-Invoicing Best Practices for the Middle East

Switzerland, January 2024 – Governments and tax authorities are driving the need for businesses to adopt E-Invoicing across the globe. As more countries across the Middle East mandate E-Invoicing, tax becomes an integral part of day-to-day finance and commercial operations.

In the United Arab Emirates, the Ministry of Finance is set to introduce the "E-Billing System" project, which envisions the implementation of an advanced nationwide electronic billing system. This initiative is expected to incorporate the Peppol CTC mandate, addressing nationwide E-Invoicing and E-Reporting requirements. Additionally, the system will automate tax return filing procedures, enhancing the efficiency of the tax system, promoting tax compliance, and reducing instances of tax evasion. The project's implementation will occur gradually, with the goal of completion by July 2025.

In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, ZATCA has announced an extension of the exemption period’s deadline on December 29, 2023. Originally set to conclude on December 31, 2023, the new deadline is now extended until June 30, 2024. This extension grants taxpayers an additional six months to adhere to E-Invoicing rules, allowing them to rectify any potential issues or errors without facing any repercussions.

The E-Invoicing Exchange Summit in Dubai on February 13 and 14, 2024 will explore the key changes, trends, opportunities and challenges to businesses and their stakeholders, harnessing global E-Invoicing best practices for the Middle East's tax reporting and compliance landscape.

E-Invoicing Exchange Summit Europe: Almost 300 E-Invoicing Experts met in Dublin

Dublin, Ireland, October 2023
– With almost 300 participants the E-Invoicing Exchange Summit 2023 in Dublin has been a perfect opportunity to network with all relevant stakeholders in the field. These first days of October have been ideal to learn about the latest news and developments in global E-Invoicing implementations and digital reporting requirements.

3 days fully packed with deep-dive workshops, presentations, panel discussions and roundtables have made Dublin to a hot spot of the E-Invoicing industry. Participants from 31 different countries, from governments, multinational corporates, legal and tax advisory firms, policymakers, industry associations and all major E-Invoicing service providers came together to exchange best practices and develop strategies to cope with upcoming challenges.

Especially ViDA - the VAT in the Digital Age initiative from the European Commission - was pivotal when discussing the way forward for E-Invoicing in Europe over the next 5 years. And for sure, there is a field of tension between tax authorities' needs to quickly close VAT gaps, and the urge for automated and efficient processes on the business side. It became obvious that to be successful and competitive in international trade all parties involved need to align their strategies and find a good balance between transparency and efficiency.

Thanks to the artist Christian Ridder a new “Big Picture of E-Invoicing” has been drawn that reflects the topical highlights of the three conference days, embedded in the great scenery of the dinner event.

E-Invoicing Exchange Summit Americas: Celebrating the Launch of the Digital Business Networks Alliance

Switzerland, May 2023 – More than 120 experts, thought leaders and key decision-makers from 25 countries met at the E-Invoicing Echange Summit in Miami from April 24 to 26, 2023 in order to discuss the current and future trends in electronic invoicing, procurement and continuous transaction controls (CTCs). It have been three jam-packed and exciting days full of valuable insights from global experts sharing interesting developments in the world of E-Invoicing for the Americas and globally.

Two very well attended interactive workshops kicked off the event. The first one was run by Christiaan van der Valk and Michel Gilis from the European E-Invoicing Service Provider Association (EESPA), demystifying E-Invoicing and its abbreviations and was followed by the Business Payment Coalition discussing the next steps for the E-Invoice Exchange Framework for the U.S. and the future possibilities for organizations to join.

One of the many highlights was the celebration of the launch of the Digital Business Networks Alliance (DBNA) in the U.S. The wide acceptance and embrace of the four-corner-model was evident in the numerous presentations. Leading corporate case studies gave insights into their current E-Invoicing implementations as well as into the future trends of automation and artificial intelligence. Further subjects of debate included the harmonization towards a truly global interoperability framework (GIF), which was also the topic of a high-level expert panel.

Once again, the E-Invoicing Exchange Summit has been a great space where the E-Invoicing and E-Reporting community exchanged ideas and benefitted from great networking opportunities. Numerous excellent discussions and face-to-face talks took place with customers, partners, and policy drivers on the convergence of the different E-Invoicing and E-Reporting models and how all can help reduce complexity and manage the transition to E-Invoicing and Continuous Transaction Controls.

The very positive feedback from all parties proves the need for a dedicated platform for E-Invoicing for the Americas to share best practices and ideas. The E-Invoicing Exchange Summit is glad to take over this role and to establish itself as the key event for the community. We say thank you to all participants, speakers and partners that made the 6th edition of the Exchange Summit a huge success and look very much forward to seeing you next year, April 22 to 24, 2024 in Miami.
